What’s New In Express Entry in 2023

New in Express Entry

The continuous changes in the Express Entry system highlight the adaptability and responsiveness of the Canadian immigration process. These modifications are essential to address evolving economic needs, labor market demands, and immigration policy priorities. By introducing updates such as revised CRS scores, additional points for specific skills or occupations, or changes to program requirements, the Express Entry system ensures that it remains efficient, effective, and aligned with the changing dynamics of the Canadian economy.

These ongoing adjustments demonstrate the commitment of the Canadian government to attract highly skilled individuals, promote diversity, and maintain a competitive edge in the global talent pool. The continuous changes in the Express Entry system reflect a proactive approach to immigration, enabling Canada to optimize its selection process, support economic growth, and welcome talented individuals who can contribute to the nation’s prosperity.

This 2023, there are new improvements in the Express Entry system. Here’s what’s new in Express Entry:

Online Application Status Tracker Expansion

You can now track your application status more efficiently and in real-time with its tracker expansion.

Expanding the application status tracker for Express Entry is crucial to enhance transparency, improve communication, and provide a better user experience for applicants. By offering real-time updates on application status, it reduces uncertainty, anxiety, and the need for frequent inquiries. This expansion would also streamline the immigration process, optimize resource allocation, and enable data-driven decision-making, ultimately resulting in greater efficiency, accountability, and customer satisfaction within the Express Entry system.

Reduction in the Processing Time for New Applications

The new applications for Express Entry are being processed faster now that the processing time has been reduced.

Reducing the processing time for new Express Entry applications would enhance the competitiveness of the Express Entry system, attracting highly skilled individuals to Canada. It would also reduce uncertainty and waiting periods for applicants, allowing them to plan their future and integrate into Canadian society sooner.

Moreover, faster processing times would contribute to meeting the country’s labor market demands and economic needs more effectively, ensuring that qualified individuals can contribute to Canada’s growth and development in a timely manner.

Self-Employed Physician’ Inclusion in CEC

Self-employed physicians are now included in the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) draw.

A temporary public policy has been implemented specifically for foreign national physicians who applied for permanent residence through Express Entry on or after April 25, 2023. This policy applies to those who have experience in delivering publicly funded medical services in Canada, such as fee-for-service work.

Previously, if physicians were self-employed in Canada on a work permit, they would not have been eligible for the Canadian Experience Class. However, under this new policy, the work experience can now be considered as Canadian work experience.

To ensure that the work experience is correctly recognized as Canadian work experience when completing the profile, it’s important to avoid checking the “Self-employed work” checkbox under the work experience in the Canada section.

FSW Draw Was Executed for the First Time

For the very first time, there was a Federal Skilled Worker program draw.

The Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) draw in Canada holds immense importance as it plays a pivotal role in selecting highly skilled individuals who can contribute to the country’s economic growth and development.

If the draw will be executed consistently, the FSWP allows the government to strategically identify and invite candidates with in-demand skills and qualifications to apply for permanent residency. These draws ensure that Canada can attract talented individuals from around the world, fostering diversity and innovation within its workforce.

By prioritizing skilled workers through the FSWP draw, Canada can address labor market gaps, stimulate economic sectors, and maintain its competitive edge on the global stage. The program contributes to building a vibrant and prosperous nation by welcoming skilled individuals who can contribute their expertise, enriching communities, and creating opportunities for both themselves and future generations.

New Category-Based Selection in the express entry

The Canadian Express Entry system has introduced category-based rounds of invitations, aimed at meeting specific economic goals. In these rounds, candidates eligible for a certain category, as established by the Minister, are invited from the Express Entry pool to apply for permanent residence.

The implementation of category-based draws in Canada holds great importance as it allows the government to address specific labor market needs and immigration priorities strategically. By targeting specific categories such as skilled trades, healthcare professionals, or technology experts, category-based draws ensure a more focused selection of candidates who possess the desired skills and qualifications.

Categories Chosen for 2023

For the year 2023, the following categories have been selected:

  • French-language proficiency
  • Healthcare occupations
  • Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) occupations
  • Trade occupations
  • Transport occupations
  • Agriculture and agri-food occupations

With these category-based rounds of invitations, the Express Entry system continues to evolve, focusing on specific economic needs and providing potential immigrants with diverse opportunities to make Canada their new home.
