Applying for a study permit
Once the eligibility criteria have been met by the prospective student and they have the correct documents, they may apply for a study permit, online or by paper. Paper applications must be given to a visa processing office outside of Canada.
As soon as the letter of acceptance is received, it is important to apply for the study permit. Processing times may vary and during busier times, such as the summer months, delays are likely.

Work off-campus
International students can work up to 20 hours per week during regular academic sessions and full-time during breaks from study, such as Summer or Winter holidays or Spring Break.

These on-campus employers include the school, a faculty member, a student organization, a private business located on campus, a contractor that provides services to the school and being self-employed on-campus.

STUDY WITHOUT A STUDY PERMIT
Study in Canada doesn’t always mean you need a study permit.
In most cases, a foreign national will require a Canadian study permit in order to study in Canada at any level. In some circumstances, however, a foreign student may be exempt from requiring this.
Introduction to : Study in Canada without a Study Permit
Short-Term Study in Canada
A study permit is not required if the program of study is six months or less. These courses can cover any subject and may be full or part time. A Visa extension will not be granted simply for the purpose of completing a short-term program.
Minor Children in Canada
Any minor child studying at pre-school, primary or secondary level and residing in Canada may study without a permit. This includes the children of temporary students or workers, as well as permanent residents and Canadian citizens.
Family Members and Private Staff of Diplomats
Any family member or member of private staff for a foreign diplomat or foreign accredited representative does not require a permit to study in Canada. In this circumstance, a family member is defined as:
- A spouse or common-law partner
- The dependent child of the individual or their spouse/common-law partner
- The dependent child of a dependent child
Members of Foreign Armed Forces in Canada
Any member of the armed forces of a country that is a designated state under the Visiting Forces Act do not require a permit to study in Canada.

STUDY PERMIT EXTENSION
For International Students
Many international students who complete post-secondary education in Canada wish to stay and obtain Canadian work experience.
Introduction to : Extend your Study Permit
If you wish to extend your stay in Canada as a student or renew your study permit, at least 60 to 90 days are required before your study permit expires, allowing us to apply for the extension in that time.
